Elaine Beckett The Faber New Poets scheme |
***
Bokförlaget Faber & Faber har tillsammans med Art Council England tillkännagivit vilka poeter som ingår i "the Faber New Poets scheme 2015–16".
Deras gemensamma deklaration låter så här:
"Now in its fourth incarnation, the Faber New Poets scheme exists to encourage new writers at a crucial point in their career. Open to those who have yet to publish a first collection or pamphlet, the scheme offers mentorship, pamphlet publication and financial support. This year, the scheme welcomed an incredible nine hundred manuscript submissions."
For Roy, by Elaine Beckett
Twice round the block in sheeting rain,
up windy hill, in all weathers
he’d parade the rows of bungalows
with a smile, or a kind word,
as if he were in charge
and in a way he was;
first to notice if lights were still on
beyond half past ten, or someone had parked
a car by the blackthorn hedge,
he’d store it all up for a conversation
with anyone, anyone willing to pass
the cold time of day.
Jean is at her window trying to make sense of it,
how it could have happened like that,
all of a sudden, like that.

Redaktionen tillhör the Creative Writing Program of the University of British Columbia.
As Long as the Sun Shines“.

You have our attention now.
Yellow-slickered figure
raising a baton
to blue sky.
The clouds pause hold
a collective breath
Syncrude's smoke hangs
in clueless waiting.
Something is about to happen:
a hydrocarbon concerto, perhaps,
or the oiled duck symphony.
"Our desires," the program
notes declare, "rarely come in
desirable form
but must be extracted
from the more complex."
The dross that remains
after what we desire
is taken away
rises, forms
Great Boreal Lakes.
It has already swamped the orchestra,
is lapping at our feet.
You float upon it, alone
sinking into your final
well-attended
performance
visible from space.
