Dag 2 - Tema: Staden
UTAH : In the city of light / Larry Levis
At night, I walked through the lit streets
Of New York, from the Gramercy Park Hotel
Up Lexington & at that hour, alone,
I stopped hearing traffic, voices, the racket
Of spring wind lifting a newspaper high
Above the lights. The streets wet,
And shining. No sounds. Once,
When I saw my son be born, I thought
How loud this world must be to him, how final.
That night, out of respect for someone missing,
I stopped listening to it.

MONTREAL : from Ruined Interior / Suzanne Buffam
The donut shops, and the boardwalk.
It rained today. You can see
Perfect inversions of streetlights
Suspended in drops on the window.
You can see the skyline
Trying to hold up the sky.
Don't tell me there's another,
Better place. Don't tell me
There's a sea
Above our dreaming sea
And through the windows of heaven
The rains come down.

NYA ZEELAND : the fossils / Hinemoana Baker
I feel
said the woman on the bus
like I’ve swallowed a branch.
Is this a new flu?
The bus-driver said
I feel like
I’ve swallowed a hurry.
Well I
said the depot manager
I feel like I’ve swallowed
a large white brick state house.
The brick isn’t real
it’s a kind of cladding.
At one corner
a nest of spiders is building.

EDINBURGH : Assynt and Edinburgh / Norman MacCaig
From the corner of Scotland I know so well
I see Edinburgh sprawling like seven cats
on its seven hills beside the Firth of Forth.
And when I'm in Edinburgh I walk
amongst the mountains and lochs of that corner
that looks across the Minch to the Hebrides.
Two places I belong to as though I was born
in both of them.
They make every day a birthday,
giving me gifts wrapped in the ribbons of memory.
I store them away, greedy as a miser.

BARBADOS : from Antiquity / Adisa Jelani Andwele

transforming we from uh village
to uh developing nation
misleading an’ blinding all muh childrun
